Democracy in Education: Empowering Sustainable Schools

Learn the latest skills

Democracy in Education: Empowering Sustainable Schools course aims to introduce participants to the principles of democratic education, with a particular focus on the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC). By employing a competence-based approach to education, the course encourages teachers to reflect on their teaching practices and promotes cultural diversity, empathy, and multiple perspectives. It also addresses issues such as prejudice, xenophobia, discrimination, and effective interpersonal communication within the context of democratic, sustainable, and intercultural education.

Participants will identify opportunities of intercultural and sustainable learning from the multifaceted and dynamic dimensions of different identities and cultures as they learn from each other.

Furthermore, the course aims to enhance educators' abilities to manage cooperation and competition, envision ideal sustainable and democratic schools, and ensure equitable educational outcomes for all students. It examines the compatibility of the RFCDC and ESD with national educational systems and explores the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through practical activities and workshops, participants will develop tangible skills and resources applicable to their school environments.
